Our Story

HSBC was founded in 1865 in Hong Kong and Shanghai to finance trade between Europe and Asia. The name "HSBC" is derived from the initials of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, which was established by a Scottish banker named Thomas Sutherland.

Today, we have grown into one of the world's largest banking and financial services organisations, with a presence in over 60 countries and territories. We serve more than 40 million customers worldwide, ranging from individuals and families to businesses and governments.
